When Your Kid Thinks Their World Is Over

Kids can get riled up about the most random stuff. Here’s the scene in our house a couple weeks ago:

I was sitting on the couch reading when I suddenly heard crying coming from my stepson’s room upstairs.

Mommy was nearby so she was first on the scene. From what I gathered through the tears and mumbling IM had forgotten a textbook in his dad’s car when we picked him up earlier and was upset because he had 2 chapters left to read for school the next day.

Waiting until the last minute to do homework is a topic for another day.

If it were me I’d probably have snickered with devious joy at the opportunity to dodge homework with such a perfect excuse. The next morning I would’ve delivered a gut-wrenching performance to the teacher on the trials of having stepparents that undoubtedly would leave her in a puddle of tears.

Unfortunately, my acting skills aren’t that good and I’m not in 4th grade.

West Coast Ninja Meetup

My weekend was awesome.

I hope your weekend was great and all, but my weekend could probably dropkick your weekend to next Friday. Which, if you think about it, would be awesome for both of us because today is Monday and no one likes Monday anyway.

But I digress…

Besides great food with friends on Friday night and lots of family time on Sunday, I had the opportunity to meet some fellow bloggers in real life on Saturday afternoon.

Priorities Postpone Projects

I started out this week with great intentions.

I was going to…

  • write a zombie post for Halloween
  • start NaNoWriMo on Tuesday
  • workout every day
  • catch up on blog reading (and commenting)
  • fold the laundry
  • take some street photos
  • prepare for blog updates

Well, as often happens, my best laid plans were in vain. Based on some work and family stuff it was more important (both in the cosmic sense and personally) for me to focus on higher priorities and postpone these projects.

Apparently it’s time for a comment policy

Okay. Here’s the 411.

Last Friday I posted a piece audaciously titled The Married Man’s Guide to Getting Laid. Naturally with a headline like that it was bound to draw a variety of reactions.

It was intended to be a cheeky post encouraging men who might otherwise be without a clue how to get on the right track to intimacy with their wives. Unfortunately, comments here on Some Wise Guy got way out of hand (including my own) and so I decided to delete them, which is very first time this has happened.

Emissions Straight From The Horse’s… er… Mouth

Episode #28 of the Wise Gal Wednesday series features Jessica Bowman, a stay at home mom to 4 Wild Things, writer and freelance ninja.

Jessica dislikes school, likes sarcasm, and loves Jesus. She wrote an insightful and witty parenting book that one time and she’s been known to tweetblog, and facebook quite a lot.

However, she’s willing to give all of that up if God is willing to send her to South Asia to minister one day. Also, she really likes cheese.

I think you’re really going to like her guest post today. Gosh darn it.

Emissions Straight From The Horse’s… er… Mouth

Cussing: It’s a topic that’s usually painting with a very black and white brush in the Christian community.  Like adultery, or murder.  Should you do it? – Circle yes or no.

  • Yes
  • No

But is it that simple of an issue?  Is it that cut and dry?
